The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a high surf advisory for the Big Island’s west-facing shores until noon.
Waves are forecast to range in height from 6 to 9 feet, according to the service. The service noted specifically the Kona and Kohala coasts in its forecast.
A high surf advisory means waves along affected shores will be higher than normal and dangerous rip currents are expected. Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break.
